Farewell to Alta

Farewell to Alta

April 20, 2008

This weekend was the last weekend for Alta. It's bitter sweet. I'm happy spring is here but also sad that winter is over. I actually need a break from burning the candle at both ends. My friend Sara and I dressed up for our last day at Alta. I was in high-waisted jeans, yes jeans. They were probably the same jeans my mom wore when she got married. Awesome! I felt like Richard Simmons in my sp…

A pledge table set up at the base of Alta this Saturday the 19th for The Backcountry Tour for the Cure. Connie and Alta were nice enough to give us the okay, so I'll probably post up on the patio of the Gold Miner's Daughter with info on the event and pledge forms. Black Diamond was also nice enough to donate a lantern, which will be raffled off at the pledge table...every pledge gets a raffle ti…

I wasn't nervous the night before but on the morning of April 11, but I was a little apprehensive to ski. My weird gut feeling wouldn't go away. Just nerves I thought. The men started out the first day of the Finals for the World Tour 2008. They got started at 12:30pm not the 9:30am start the event organizers were hoping for. I started the hour-plus hike a bit before 3pm along with the other …

Qualifiers Day 1

Qualifiers Day 1

April 16, 2008

By: andria

Today was the first day of the qualifiers. I think it was a harder venue than what we are skiing tomorrow. It also was the longest venue I've ever seen, minus the final day venue in Tigne, France. Anyways, it was a good showing today. I was impressed. And most impressed that a women, Rebecca, out-showed the men by receiving the highest score of the day. Qualifying Women Rebecca Selig 38.…

Yesterday was awesome!!! It was dumping those big fat fluffy snowflakes well into the afternoon yesterday. We headed out around noon, after registration for the last World Tour stop. It was the first day this season or at least the first I can remember in a really long time, that I could enjoy a powder day. I’m usually doing a photo shoot on powder days. There was a run unde…

Alyeska…it’s a small resort but an amazing one. It was a ghost town up there yesterday. We were about the only ones on the mountain, along with a few fellow competitors. The resort didn’t open until 10:30 so we started skiing around 11am. The resort is smaller, but steep!! We checked out the venues from the bottom, steep and gnarly. It was fun.…

I’m in Alaska!!! It’s what I always thought it’d be, big mountains that run into a body of water. Last night as the sun was setting I thought "I’m the luckiest person around to be able to see all these beautiful places around the world." I flew into Anchorage yesterday and had to wait about five hours for someone to come pick me…

Davos, Switzerland NOT on World Tour

Davos, Switzerland NOT on World Tour

March 30, 2008

A little disappointed this year, I never made it to Europe to ski. I was supposed to go to Austria for a comp but I ended up not going due to a minor injury. Then the IFSA World Tour announced a stop in Davos, Switzerland. I was psyched! Then up in Jackson they called the Davos comp off. It had rained at the top of the mountain and well, the venues were unskiable. So I must say, it's been a disap…

Today was the last competition of the year for the Alta Freeride Jr. Team. I was a judge and will say, I was impressed. This little kids ages 11-17 were rippers. The development team started off the competition in Eagle's Nest up at Alta. All six of these guys had good solid technique and skied fluid the entire run. Next up the girls. A few girls took a cliff at the top of the venue and one girl …

I can't believe this winter is coming to an end. It's flown by. A few disappointments and a few surprises. Overall it's been a good season for me. I'm skiing a lot better and I hit the biggest cliff ever last weekend in the comp, not on purpose. I've gotten out a lot with photographers, which is what the sponsors want. So it's been a productive season. But with summer around the corner I'm a litt…

Tight pants are making a come back!!

Tight pants are making a come back!!

March 25, 2008

Today I show up at Snowbird around 2pm and as I head towards the tram I notice a lady wearing tight pants going into the boots with a higher than waist jacket with goggles that look like my grandpa wore them when he was eight. This woman was quite the spectacle as she came to a stop on the cement of the tram deck. As I walked past her I notice she was skiing on a pair of fat Dynastar skis, someth…
