Trading cards are usually limited to the major team sports like football, baseball, basketball and hockey. Upper Deck, among the elite of trading card companies, has recently expanded their selection of sports. Last year professional surfers including the Hobgoods and Layne Beachley had their own cards through Upper Deck in a special series called Goodwin Champions, and earlier this year Taylor Knox was selected by Upper Deck for the Goodwin Champions series with own trading card. Now Kelly Slater will be honored by having his own trading cards as part of a very unique series of cards called the 2012 All-Time Greats.
This is a very prestigious honor for Kelly Slater. Only 20 athletes were selected for the very limited series of 2012 All-Time Greats cards, among them Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Larry Bird, Lebron James, Dan Marino, Landon Donovan, Pete Rose and Mike Tyson. And now the greatest surfer ever Kelly Slater, who is getting his due by being honored with his own limited edition trading card by Upper Deck.
Slater autographed some of the cards, including Goodwin Champions versions that are currently available so for those buying packs of Upper Deck trading cards hoping to grab some of the Slater cards an autographed version may be in there. Websites like eBay and Amazon are selling the autographed cards anywhere from $50 to $75. The 2012 All-Time Greats cards will be available later this year, with the value of the Slater cards already expected to be worth a very high amount.
