The Bud Light Lime Surf Series wrapped up its season at Nags Head's Jennette's Pier at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The fun event, which differs from the traditional contest format of competitive surfing by offering two heats for each round and allowing surfers to keep their top two scores from the opening rounds thus allowing surfers to compete against everyone else instead of the other surfer in the heat, pays an appearance fee for all surfers, provides endless Anheuser-Busch beverages to the competitors and starts every contest day at Noon. Gabe Kling won the contest and took home a $5,000 prize check.
Kling dominated in the Finals with a barrage of backhand maneuvers that resulted in scores of 9.5 and 8.83 in clean chest to head high conditions. “There's not really any strategy, it's all fun,” Kling told Surfline.com. “I haven't won anything in a while, so I'm psyched.”
The contest is an invite only event that also features a women’s division, won by Leah Dawson. All photos courtesy of the Bud Light Lime Surf Series.
