I'm not sure why nobody picked up on this until a year after the article came out, but Wired picked apart Girl Talk's last album Feed the Animals to show all the samples that went into the finished product.

Girl Talk (real name Greg Gillis) is a former scientist from Pittsburg whose first album Nightripper used over 250 samples. Since then his style of ironic rap/indie rock mashups have become standard fare for DJs everywhere. However, Greg did pioneer the approach and still holds the title as one of the best mashup DJs around.

Wired's article is based around a meticulously put together image showing some of the 300 obscure songs cut together to make this record. Nicely done.
