Simon Dumont, 23, won the freeski superpipe final for the first time during the Winter Dew Tour s 2009-10 season, while, despite taking fifth place at today s final, New Zealand s Jossi Wells overall point total was enough to make him the overall Dew Cup champion in freeski superpipe.
Bethel, Maine-native Dumont had a winning run that included a right 900, a double flip in the middle of his run, an alley-oop 720 and a switch 7, giving him a winning score of 94.75. Nineteen-year-old Tucker Perkins of North Hampton, N.H. was holding down the first-place position after the first round of runs, but ended in second place overall with a score of 92.00. Canada s Justin Dorey, 21, was in the third-place podium spot with a score of 90.00.
It s been a long but fun season, and it was awesome to have everything fall into place to get first at the final stop of the season, said Dumont. All of the freeskiers really came together to put on a good show today.
After placing second at the Winter Dew Tour s Totino s Open at Breckenridge Ski Resort and then first at the Wendy s Invitational at Snowbasin, a Sun Valley Resort, Wells showed enough consistency throughout the season to earn the Dew Cup honor after placing fifth at today s final, edging out Dumont by a mere five points in the year-long race. The 19-year-old had a final score of 84.00, closing out the year with 260 points overall.
It feels amazing to win the Dew Cup, said Wells. I ve always looked up to Tanner Hall and just to be able to follow in his footsteps and win the Dew Cup the year after him is something I never imagined could happen. I look forward to the Winter Dew Tour next season and for Tanner to be back competing with us again.
