Quiksilver's Eddie Aikau Opening Ceremonies
Top surfers from around the globe gathered in Waimea Bay, Hawaii for the Opening Ceremonies of the 25th Anniversary celebration of The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau surf contest. Featuring the best big wave surfers in the world, contest requires 20 foot waves, which is no problem thanks to the 30-40 foot swell brought in by Typhoon Nida. It seems most everyone expects to be paddling out tomorrow, but the official call will be made at 7:00am tomorrow. Live video and updates are available here.
Chris Cole - Thrasher's Skater of the Year
Thrasher Magazine Announces Skater of the Year: Chris Cole
Chris Cole is stoked out of [his] face to be the Thrasher Magazine-s 2009 SOTY. The title is nothing new to Cole who also received the award in 2005. This year Cole s dominated at The Battle at the Berrics, The Skate Park Dew Cup, and Maloof Money Cup. Thrasher Magazine will be partying, and presenting the award, this Friday at the Herbst Pavillion at Fort Mason.
Burton Unveils US Snowboarding Uniform for 2010 Olympics
Last week Burton announced it's uniform design for the United States Snowboarding team for the 2010 Olympics. In February, the team will be headed to Vancouver in plaid jackets and pants that have the look of worn-in denim. Burton met with riders Elena Hight, Mason Aguirre, Danny Davis, Kevin Pearce, Jack Mitrani, Luke Mitrani, Steve Fisher, Scotty Lago, and Louie Vito as they worked on the design that would best help the team make their way to the Olympic podium.
Chris Davenport Ski-s Antarctica
After eight months of planning, Chris Davenport finally got the chance to begin working on his latest project: skiing Antarctica. Davenport has spent the last week enjoying the freezing cold temperatures and epic mountains of the region that he calls paradise . When he is not skiing, Chris is blogging and posting lots of photos of his journey, which you can follow here
AMA's Surprising Motorcyclist of the Year Announcements
The American Motorcyclist Association presented their annual award to a group of riders who s participation has had the greatest effect on the sport in 2009. Kids who ride motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles were the announced as the winners at the AMA Racing Championship Banquet. Due to a new law, expected to be enforced beginning in 2011, the sale of youth-model off-highway vehicles will no longer be legal. The AMA will be publishing articles on the ban in their January issue of American Motorcyclist Magazine. For more go here
