This week has been an eventful one in action sports world. Tony Hawk's i-phone app pops off, Danny Davis got broke off and lots of contest drama unfolded. Tanner Hall got a little sloppy and Nike 6.0 supplies a surprise gift to the shreds at Mt Seymour!

Weekly 7 - January 18, 2010

Katin Pro/Am
Katin Pro Challenge
A big swell pushed into Southern California last week and lit up the sandbars in Huntington Beach, just in time for the Katin Pro/AM. Local Seal Beach surfer, Chris Warring edged out HB rival Brad Ettinger (who had scored a 10 on his first wave) in the finals during head high barreling surf.

Danny Davis - out in 2010 with a back injury.
Danny Davis Injured
On the heels of his Frend Kevin Pearce's injury a few weeks ago, Danny Davis suffered a non-snowboarding accident on Sunday Jan 17 while riding an ATV with friends. An early morning crash on Sunday left Davis with a broken L3 vertebrae in his lower back, which required surgery at a Utah Hospital on Monday. The unfortunate incident will keep him out the Olympics and the remainder of the 2010 season. Bummer - Get well soon Danny!

Dave Mirra - still with Subaru
Subaru Rally Team Announces 2010 Roster
While Ken Block has chosen to forgo his relationship with Subaru to pursue a new deal with Ford, action sports titans Dave Mirra and Travis Pastrana will continue their deals with Subaru for the 2010 rally season. The Michigan s Sno*Drift Rally is the first event of the season and goes off this month the weekend of Jan 29.

Vanvcouver Rail
Nike 6.0 Greatest Hits Park
Nike 6.0 has been on a tear this year. Events, athletes, hotel sponsorships and even Holiday snuggies - you name it. The latest scheme has the 6.0 folks creating a Shangra-La for BC snowboarders looking for an alternative to Olympic madness scheduled to descend onto Whistler and Grouse Mt, next month. Combining some of the best street rail features found around North America and recreating them at Mt Seymour, the Nike 6.0 Greatest Hits park will surely be an authentic and entertaining alternative to the 5 ring circus for Vancouverites.

Peetu Piiroinen at 2010 BEO
Snowboarding Contests Go off on both sides of Atlantic
In the states the 2nd stop of the Dew Tour went down at Snowbasin resort. Danny Davis and Elena Hight won snowboarding superpipe while Chas Guldemond and Spencer O'Brien took slopestyle. On the ski side New Zealand's Josiah Wells won men's ski superpipe while Tom Wallisch landed atop the podium in men's slopestyle.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Peetu Piiroinen and Enni Rukajrvi won the Burton European Open Slopestyle for men and women respectively.

Tanner Hall - talking head.
Tanner Hall's Drunken Ramblings
Tanner Hall is out this year due to an injury: not competing, not filming and apparently not too stoked. While hanging out in Europe at the 2010 Red Bull Line Catcher event, Tanner let loose via a libation inspired monologue chastising some of his fellow competitors that they weren't "in it" for the right reasons. The backlash has proven to be traffic producing internet fodder. Hopefully it doesn't tarnish Tanner too much. Then again even bad publicity is good, right?

Tony Hawk - still on top after all these years.
Tony Hawk #1 on Itunes
Despite mixed reviews on his recently released GAME, the Tony Hawk machine is still cranking out success. This past week the Tony Hawk trick tips application on Itunes became the number 1 most downloaded sports app on Itunes. Rather impressive one must say given all the NFL post-season hoopla during playoff season. I guess 13 million skateboarders can't be wrong.

Totino\'s Field Notes

Totino's Field Notes

Totino's Field Notes - Road to the 2010 US Open of Snowboarding. It's been an interesting year for Totino's team riders Danny Davis and Mason Aguirre. After starting strong in the Fall and early season, with great contest results at the Totino's Open in Breckenridge, both riders suffered injuries. Danny is out for the year, but Mason recently came back and plans to throw down at next week's US Open of Snowboarding in Stratton, VT.
