Top Snowboarders Compete in Calgary at the Burton
Canadian Open
The Burton Canadian Open will be taking over
Canada's WinSport Olympic Park this weekend, Feb
4-5.
Whew, now we have a little time to breathe after the Dew Tour and Winter X Games events these past couple of weeks. That is, unless your name is Kelly Clark, Benji Farrow, Robby Balharry, or Brooke Voight. These athletes will be heading off to WinSport Canada's Olympic Park (COP) in Calgary to compete in the fourth annual Burton Canadian Open (CANO), presented by MINI. Team USA and Team Canada will be on hand to battle it out in what is one of Canada's premiere snowboarding competition.
The CANO will be the second stop of the Burton Global Open Series (BGOS) where the public will be able to watch their favorite pros compete in the halfpipe finals this Friday, February 3rd at 7:00p.m. and slopestyle finals on Saturday at 11a.m. for FREE.
The women's field at 2012 CANO is lead by Kelly Clark, the reigning 2011 BGOS Champion in the halfpipe. Coming off of her 13th contest win in a row at X Games, she will definitely be the one to beat. Gretchen Bleiler, Hannah Teter, Cilka Sadar and more will also be strong contenders this year. On the slopestyle side, Silvia Mittermuller (GER), who is currently ranked third in the TTR Slopestyle World Tour ranking, will give last year's CANO slopestyle winner Jamie Anderson (USA) some tough competition.
Scotty James will be the guy to beat in the halfpipe on the men's side w hile Chas Guldemond will be gunning for a podium spot in the slopestyle.
A prize purse of $70,000 will be on the line this year as well as valuable points towards the BGOS halfpipe and slopestyle titles which are each worth a cool $25k and the TTR Halfipipe/Slopestyle World Tour titles.
