"This is a story about the American Dream at its most volatile..." This flick doesn't drop until August and I promise I'll be talking about more then, but since this is the first I've heard of it I had to share now: Have you heard about this new Steve Rocco documentary "The Man Who Souled the World"? I'm pretty sure that's not a typo -- could easily have been "The Man Who Soiled The World." Either way, there is no disputing the genius/evil-genius of Steve Rocco, the man who changed skateboarding forever in the guises of Blind, Plan B, Big Brother.... In its own "Propaganda" section, the film's website drops a line starting with "Picking up where Dogtown left off..." Indeed! Also, very accurate lines like this one: "The World Industries saga is littered with conflict, drama, and dissent." Most revealing of all the press materials available so far is this quote, from the man himself: "We were just pushing the boundaries of things that hadn't been done before. And why not? I actually felt like we almost had an obligation to do it." I literally used to collect Steve Rocco's magazine ads to wallpaper my room when I was a teenager. I still have them! Can you tell I am stoked to see this movie? Stay tuned for more on this story as release dates start getting closer. The list of skate luminaries who will be appearing in this film is as spectacular as you might imagine.
