Note that we're not actually in Aspen just yet. The chartered jet fell through, but the Rent A Car guy was kind enough to turn a deaf ear when I told him I planned on taking the car to Colorado, which, apparently, is not permitted. So now we have a nice juicy van that we are only taking as far as Utah/Nevada state line, from where we will encamp and report.

Newschoolers has expert predictions on ski winners. (for the record, BNQT's expert ski prognosticator Pepe McGraw offers the following [not-so-bold] predictions: Sarah Burke, Women's Pipe; Tanner Hall, Men's Pipe; Sammy Carlson, Slopestyle; Jon Olsson, Big Air)



John Symms apparently wrote this nifty little slideshow preview of ski events over at EXPN.



USA Today's got a piece on Gretchen Bleiler, who is also on the current cover of ESPN the magazine. She's the "it" girl.



On the other end of the publicity spectrum, the San Jose Mercury News is running a cool piece on snowboarder Lonnie Kauk. Lonnie's posied to make his name known throughout the land this X Games and he's even compared to a warrior shaman, or samurai, if you will. Apparently the kid is really, really good.




Here's a nifty idea: Liquid Content. ESPN is teaming up with Dish Network to do X Games, for lack of a better phrase, "NASCAR style." Meaning one channel on Dish Network will have six different simultaneous camera angles to pick from. Read about it here.



BOMB SCARE! No, wait... just a shotgun.



Here's a nice local spin on the Games: Aspen bartenders hoping for business. This is the kind of information you just don't get anywhere else folks:

"Aspen police responded to at least 521 calls for service over the four days of the 2007 X Games, and made 35 arrests. The event indirectly led to more than two dozen criminal cases, including the firing of a gun near officers making a traffic stop and the alleged assault of an Aspen police officer."


The Action Sports World is coming to ASPEN! Here's hoping we can boost the local economy.
