Bring on the Free Flow Finals! The contest that turned then unknowns Mike Spinner and David Loy into overnight sensations is back. Spinner? Yeah, he’s second overall in Dew Tour Park this year and won the Portland stop. Loy’s been on trips to Dubai with Sheckler, et al. this year, so yeah… one day you’re shredding your local park, and the next day you’re trying to knock off Sheckler or Mirra or Bestwick or Dhers. Pretty cool, no?

The Free Flow Tour is one of the sicker concepts in all of action sports: Over the course of a summer, invite the kids out to shred at their local spots, places like Encinitas, CA, Chicago, IL, Rye, NH, Orange, CA, Lake Elsinore, CA, Salt Lake City, UT, and fetid dumps like Cleveland, OH. Skate and ride for an afternoon, and the winner at each stop gets a ticket to Orlando and a chance to compete for a chance to compete in an actual Dew Tour event. It’s egalitarian, and gives guys like Spinner and Loy a chance at a career that they might not otherwise get.

In skate, we here are pulling for our boy Chris Mendes, who’s been through quite a lot this year, including a) getting jumped and b) entering himself into three Free Flow contests before emerging as Orange County champion and punching his ticket to Orlando. The kid’s got the skills to pull it off:
