Chicago rappers The Cool Kids have had a hell of a year. They were recruited by video game studio 2K Sports to be a major component of the NBA 2K7 marketing campaign, featured in a Mountain Dew marketing campaign, featured in a Rhapsody commercial, toured the US extensively and dropped an EP that sold over 50,000 copies independently. The Kids grind hard.
The group is made up of Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks, and the two bring a totally different sound to the table. They blend a low-fi/old school hip hop sound with modern spaced out beats. Lyrically they're just on another planet.
Yesterday they dropped their latest mixtape with DJ Don Cannon called Gone Fishing. The tape is a prelude to their first full length album When Fish Ride Bicycles due out sometime later this year.
