50 Surfers came out for the one year anniversary of
the BP oil spill
It's been one year since the BP Gulf Oil Spill and in honor of the anniversary 50 surfers and the Surfrider foundation paddled out into the Florida waves. Twelve flowers were brought, eleven representing the oil rig workers who were killed in the explosion and one flower to represent the marine life effected by the spill.
In an article, surf-rider member Thomas Paterek explains the significance of the anniversary
"It really scared people, it really woke people up to the sense that there's a threat off shore and we really need to be aware."
