thing.
(As seen in USA Today) - On August 28th, athlete, entrepreneur and skateboarding advocate Rob Dyrdek debuts his Street League Skateboarding event series at the Jobing.com Arena in Phoenix, AZ.

Skateboarding contests have existed since the 1970s, yet Street League hopes for the first time to offer mainstream Major League drama through statistics and strategy.

Utilizing an all-knew instant scoring system, competitors execute seven tricks on each of the four distinct concrete course features. "Every trick is scored instantly so you know what place each skater is in," says Dyrdek. You're following the action all the way to the end."

Dyrdek believes this focus on tactics and one-upsmanship will showcase street skateboarding in its true light and will draw interest from mainstream sports fans.

"There's all this immense data that starts to develop, like average landed trick score, consistency ratings, most accumulated points in the history of the league, he says. All this long term data has never existed."

Joining Street League requires athletes to sign an exclusivity contract preventing them from partaking in other competitions, yet a combination of $1.2 million in prize money, ownership through a league revenue sharing program and a format that rewards the most capable athletes has attracted the sport's best without hesitation.

"Rob's got so many good ideas and every idea has made a difference in some way or another," says X Games Gold medalist Ryan Sheckler. "Anything that he wants to include me in, I'm there."

Aiding in the prominence of Street League is a multi-year deal Dyrdek struck with ESPN 2 that will broadcast the each of three competitions during primetime Wednesday night slots on September 15, 22 and 29.
