BarciaRound 10 of The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship continued this past Saturday with the Rockstar Energy Southwick National presented by Traxxas from Moto-X 338 in Southwick, MA.
With only three rounds left in the series it looks like the battle for the 250 Championship is coming down between Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Christophe Pourcel and Geico Powersports rider Trey Canard. Coming into the Southwick race only 16 points separated the two. Right now it s either riders championship to lose. Here is how there day went.
Moto One
Leading the pack of sand covered bikes into turn one would be TLD/Lucas Oil Honda rider Wil Hahn.
Hahn rode awesome holding off Canard for about half the moto before he would lose the top spot to the ever hard charging rider.
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawaski rider Tyla Rattray was on the move also and would also pass Hahn setting his sights on Canard.
Rattray had found some good lines on the track and was making up a lot of time on Canard lap after lap.
Coming down to the last few laps Rattray was right behind Canard.
One mistake by Canard and he would lose the moto.
But Canard dug deep and held off Rattray by mear bike lengths at the checkered flag. Really great battle to watch. Hahn would hold on to third.
Geico Powersports rider Justin Barcia would get fourth and Rattrays teammate Dean Wilson would finish in the fifth spot.
So top five in moto one would be Canard, Rattray, Hahn, Barcia and Wilson.
Current points leader Pourcel got a horrible start but was able to make his way up to seventh in the moto. That still gave up a whole lot of points to Canard.
Moto Two
Once again it would be Wil Hahn getting the early lead but making his move quickly around him would be last years overall winner Justin Barcia.
Barcia wasted no time in checking out.
Pourcel was next to get around Hahn. Rattray would also make it past Hahn and Pourcel but was unable to reel Barcia in.
Hahn would then lose just one more position to Wilson before the moto s end.
Barcia would go on to an easy win in moto two finishing second overall for the day.
Rattray would get second in the moto but would be the overall race winner going 2-2.
Pourcel would hold onto third, Wilson fouth and Hahn fifth.
Overall top five riders for the day were Rattray, Barcia, Canard, Hahn and Pourcel.
Canard seemed to struggle during moto two for some reason and could only manage to finish ninth in the moto giving back a lot of points he had picked up on Pourcel in the first moto.
Canard still managed to pick up three points on Pourcel at the end of the day with only 13 points separating the two riders with 2 races left.
This is going to be a close one for sure!
