Woman lost her leg when she crashed at Mammoth
Mountain
Kathleen Willhide-Michiulis suffered a horrific tragedy on Friday when she crashed into a snowcat at the Mammoth Mountain Ski area. The 43 year old woman lost her leg after becoming entangled in the spinning tillers. An article in the LA Times quotes an anonymous resort employee, "Her leg was gone."
The Mammoth Times explains, "the driver of the snowcat was a senior operations staffer. He was on his way to rescue a broken-down snowmobile in the old "Boneyard" section of the ski area. Driving on skier's left, he turned left into the Boneyard, saw a flash of black, either on his left or in the driver's side mirror."
The snowboarder was airlifted to a Reno hospital where she stayed until Tuesday morning.
