So news yesterday when backcountry skier, Tucker Taffe passed away while on 14,411' Mt Rainier.
Tucker was skiing down the Upper Nisqually Glacier at 13,180' when he fell into a 100-foot deep crevasses.
The four other skiiers with Tucker said that they were able to hear him and that Tucker was, indeed, alive when the accident happened.
One of the group members left to get help and was able to grab a team of Alpine Ascents Internation mountaineering guides in one of their training exercises. However, although the guides got to the site quickly got to the accident and sent one of their own to check on Tucker; the skiier had already passed away due to his injuries.
A military helicopter was brought in to retrieve Tuckers body. At 33 years old, Tucker Taffe is the 99th person to die on Mt. Rainier.
