Video of a great white shark captured by fisherman in Western Australia is causing controversy. This week local fisherman captured this footage of a large 4 meter (13 feet) great white patrolling the waters just a few kilometers off a popular swimming and surfing beach, Trigg Beach near the town of Stirling. The fisherman reported the sighting to town officials immediately over the radio, but the beaches remained open.
A local shark expert Hugh Edwards felt the decision to keep the beaches open was wrong.
"I think it was an error by the council…whoever got the message at the council (about the shark) did not act with the urgency which was required,” Mr Edwards said.
