For those that don't remember Shaun Palmer was one of the original bad boys of snowboarding. Based in South Lake Tahoe and running rampant in the time of Jim Rippey, Noah Salasnek and Shannon Dunn Palmer helped define snowboarding's anti-establishment, punk rock ethos of the 1990s.
In the summer months Palmer also saw a lot of success mountain biking circuit and became known for excelling in both sports. His experience racing downhill no doubt helped him when snowboard cross became an official discipline at Winter X games. Between mountain biking and snowboardcross Palmer earned six X Games golds between 1997-2001.
Out today is a documentary of Palmer's life - The Miserable Champion, which many will likely find entertaining and nostalgic of times gone by. An important figure in the history of action sports Palmer's legacy both pays homage to snowboarding's DIY past while offering a life lesson on what not to do.
