After one especially epic day at Waimea Bay, Ramon Navarro became the first surfer to take the $10,000 Monster Energy Drop at the Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, fueled by Monster Energy for his drop-in on the third ever 100-point wave in the history of the competition. Greg Long scored the other 100-point wave of the day earlier in the competition and went on to win 1^st place.

The Chilean Navarro also ended up with a 5^th place title for his 267 point total. Bursting with excitement he came to shore screaming and said, "I'm so happy just to be invited here with all of my friends muchos gracias, viva la Chile! .
