Surfline posted this weekend that the Rip Curl Search ASP World Tour will hold event number 10 at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, CA.
"We wanted to show a different side of the Search," explained Rip Curl Marketing director Dylan Slater."If you look at the six different locations over the last six years, there's such a variety of different types of waves.
San Francisco brings a whole new dimension to the Search: The World's Best Surfers vs. the Elements -- cold water, sizable surf, beachbreak. And that time of year gives you a good chance for offshore winds.
Plus the unique energy that the city brings will make this event a very distinct part of the Rip Curl Pro Search legacy."
With the new locations comes questions and concerns from the SF locals. Last week a meeting was held in a local bar where locals can inquire about what's going to happen when the Rip Curl Pro comes to town. Long-time SF local and surfer, Andy Olive explains, "People are kinda into it 'cause it's happening. But no one is stoked that it's happening."
However, in the article Olive notes "What would Kelly Slater do on that wave?"
In the end, everyone remains optimistic;
Olive closes with"Bottom line is this: it's gonna happen. Let San Franpsycho be a part of the events. Use Jeff's (Duerson) catering. Enlist the dudes from Matt Lopez' gym, Barra Brothers, for security. There's loads of opportunities where they could stoke the local community out."
