Forest's rail skills, like his mustache, keep getting heavier every season. Following the in the line of fellow Vermonters, Lucas Magoon and Niko Cioffi, the Southern-Vermonter-turned-Tahoe-transplant took first on Saturday at Killington's Rails 2 Riches (a repeat victory from last year), putting 3,000 dollars in his pocket and another contest win under his belt. Even though he has had a string of competition victories over the last two seasons, Forest remains as humble and hilarious as he has always been, putting his friends and family first while continuing to step up his game as he narrows the gap between himself and snowboarding's big league. Check below for his thoughts on his recent victory, his rail riding and the correct spelling of his name.
The organizers of Rails 2 Riches referred to you warmly as Forest "I hate wearing bibs" Bailey. Do you think that'll catch on?
(laughs) They're very uncomfortable and the judges are very good friends of mine and I was wearing a 686 sweatshirt. I was just pretending my number was 686 and whenever anyone asked me why I wasn't wearing my bib, I said it was because it was broken. I hate bibs. Hopefully I won't be doing that many more contests where I need bibs. I hate bibs a lot.
What led to your victory? Do you think it had anything to do with the fact that Killington served lunch to everyone this year?
Now we're talkin'. I would say it was half my mustache and half my snowboarding skills. And the lunch at Killington was delicious and if they hadn't done that I would have starved to death because before I won, I seemed to have no money.

They say things are better the second time around--was winning this year better than last year? Maybe it was worse. Maybe it felt exactly the same. What do you think?
It was definitely better, because the second time's the charm. The second time's the charm--again. No, it was really good because more of my friends were there this year and partying after was awesome, and eating Friendly's after was magnificent. I liked the set up better this year. That down rail was really good with the donkey. Last year, I think there were more better quality riders. That's a great sentence (laughs). Last year, Kade was there and Sam and Brandon, and they're really good and fun to watch. And, unfortunately my best friend Will Bateman didn't get in, so he wasn't there to have fun riding with me. It was a great night. Some great times. Good crew.
You mentioned Friendly's?
We went to Friendly's afterward, me, Dubbers and Will. I was the only sober one and they brought a bottle of Jim Beam in and were pouring it into their drinks. I was just watching them make fools of themselves in front of everybody and getting pretty embarrassed.
What does a person treat themselves to at Friendly's after they win three grand at a snowboard contest?
I had a bacon cheeseburger. What else did I have...we had an appetizer sampler for the table. I treated Will and Dubbers.
Your name is really simple to spell, but no one in the snowboard industry can seem get it right.
It's like the woods and the alcohol drink. It's not that hard get to right already. F-O-R-E-S-T.
If that extra 'r' was in there, what would it stand for?
Radical. That's an easy one.
This would be better if it was an audio interview.
I know! We should do that. One day.

What are you going to do with your prize money?
Well, I was going to buy a pony, but I already got one for Christmas, so now I'm just going to save it, I guess. That or buy my friends food and beer.
How excited was your mom that you won?
She was pissed off because I didn't call her, but now we have resolved this and she's very happy about the whole thing. And I will be buying her a pony (at this point his mom says in the background: I don't want a pony!) But, she doesn't even want it because she wants a new dog, because Kramer died...a long, long time ago at a place very close to my house.
At the veterinarian's office?
Yeah, I think he got put down because he was sick. This interview has taken a horrible turn.
Is Rails 2 Riches the best rail contest of the season?
Hmm..this is a hard one. It is in the top three I'd say. So far this year, it was the best, but I'm hoping that there will be some better ones later on in the year...I mean season, because my mom reminded me that there are only two weeks left in the year.
You were doing a lot of presses on Saturday.
Yes, in the years previous I was doing a lot of swivels and tap-a-rooners and things of that nature, but this year I decided to keep it proper and go back to the roots of rail riding and try to step it up in a big way.
Why the change?
Well, it's easier to spin around as many times as you can, I've noticed, rather than hold yourself in position and lock in tricks.
It that what your philosophy with your season as a whole?
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Yes, definitely. I'm filming for Colton Feldman's new production Dump Em and I think it's going to be a really good season this year.

What tricks that you landed were you most stoked on?
Cab two sev through the down flat down, was stoked on that. Switch front board on the down flat down and that's pretty much it, those were my two favorites, I think.
How did your oversized check ended up in small pieces in the back of Riley Nickerson's car?
Haha, that's a long story. Well, [after the contest] I went upstairs to find all my support group--aka friends--they were all huddled together in the base lodge because of the cold weather. As soon as got up there they proceeded to karate chop and punch my check in half and hold me upside down and force me to shotgun a beer. And then my friend who drove me to the contest, Jordan, what's her last name--Jordan Parks, I'm really bad with names, she is a good friend of mine--broke her nose, so I had to go to the ski patrol office. By the time I got back [to the lodge], the doors were locked and I think Riley already put my check in his car, so that's how it got there.
Have you gotten it back?
No, Riley still has it. I think I'm just going to let him have it, because he deserves it. Plus I still have last years. I only need one.
Anything else?
I'm glad that we did this interview Mary Walsh, you're the best. Thank my sponsors: Red Bull, 686, Drop, Gnu, Bent Metal, Cooter Brown.
