Skateboarding in Maine is, I'm told, alive and well, which is awesome. But, Maine-resident-skaters have had tough luck on good skateparks. There are a couple, for sure, but definitely not the plethora of parks that reside a few hours to the south in New England. Well, Portland, Maine has just taken a step forward and broken ground on a new skatepark.

Unfortunately, the views of many Mainers are not nearly as forward-thinking as a lot of other areas (read: as an example, the Northwest) in the US and there's a lot of salty back talk in the comment section. Check out the article in the Portland Press Herald, enjoy the humor, get frustrated at the closed-mindedness, and be stoked that Southern Maine will have a new skatepark very soon.
