Paul Rodriguez used technical moves and clean style to earn the fourth X Games Men's Skateboard Street gold medal of his career Sunday at a sunny and crowded Event Deck at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, Calif.
"These are the best guys in the world and on any day it could be anybody's contest. Today is my day and it feels incredible," Rodriguez said. "I'm going to savor every second of it. It feels good for today and I'm just going to appreciate it.
P-Rod threw out all the stops in his fourth run with a switchflip over the rail into the bank, bump to back tail, switchflip the front board on the green rail, switch front blunt on the big rail, kickflip over the chain and 360 flip down the stairs for the win
Following Rodriguez with the second to notch the sixth X Games medal of his career was Ryan Sheckler. After sitting in last place for the first three runs of the competition Sheckler threw a fourth run Hail Mary where he stomped all his tricks to earn the silver.
"I was just happy to land my run. It just worked out. I really wanted to land that back 3 and I got that, so I'm stoked," Sheckler said. "I'm very excited to be up here. I haven't had a podium finish in a minute, so I'm stoked."
And riding through the pain of a bothersome leg, the 2011 X Games Skateboard Street gold medalist Nyjah Huston had a solid first run with kickflip backside lip slide, backside flip, backside smith grind, kickflip backside 50, 180 switch 50, 360 flip frontside lip slide to finish with the X Games bronze.
"I think the rails were built perfect and some of the tranny stuff was hard to skate, but it all worked out ok," Huston said.
PODIUM RESULTS:
1. Paul Rodriguez -86.00
2. Ryan Sheckler - 85.33
3. Nyjah Huston - 85.00
