It was a special “retro†event celebrating 40 years of motocross racing. A lot of riders wore retro motocross gear from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. Spectators attending the race also wore vintage clothing and t-shirts. And some of the bikes actually had graphics kits from those eras as well. The weather was nice sunny and hot, and for the first time in many years it did not rain! It was a really fun day and a good time was had by all.
Unadilla 450 Race Report
450 Moto 1
                           ÂÂ
The first 450 Moto holeshot would go to MCRMX’s rider Jeff Alessi with Honda/Red Bull Racing rider Davi Millsaps hot on his heals.
A few laps into the race Alessi would crash out handing the lead over to Millsaps. Series points leader, team Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki rider Chad Reed did not get the best of starts but he charged his way quickly up into the second position and only a few laps after Millsaps had taken the lead, Reed would pass him and pull away from the rest of the pack.
Reed would go on to win moto one convincingly. Nearing the end of the moto Canidae/Motosport Kawaski rider Tommy Hahn would overtake Millsaps for the second spot and finish the moto in that position. Millsaps would go on to hold on to third from another hard charging Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki rider Michael Byrne. Byrne would take the fourth spot and taking the fifth position would be Honda/Red Bull Racing rider Andrew Short.
450 Moto 2
This time out Honda/Red Bull Racing rider Andrew Short would get the holeshot just barely in front of Muscle Milk/MDK/KTM rider Justin Brayton.
Reed got a much better start and quickly found his way around Short. Just like the first moto, Reed pulled away, rode his own race and took the checkered flag with the moto win and overall going 1-1.
Short would ride a strong race and take second in the moto and second overall. Reed’ds teammate Michael Byrne was also riding well making his way around Brayton for third and taking third overall for the day. Brayton would get fourth overall. Millsaps would get fifth overall for the day.
Putting in an amazing ride was Merge Racing/Yamaha rider Kyle Regal who would get fifth in the second moto for eighth overall on the day.
Reed now has an 82 points lead over Short in his battle for the championship.
The 250’s and 450’s will all do battle again next Saturday afternoon August 22 at Budds Creek MX Park in Mechanicsville, MD.
Live coverage can be seen on NBC at 4pm ET.
