Southwick 450 Moto 1
Moto one was all Team RockStar Makita Suzuki rider Chad Reed. Reed would holeshot the moto and ride his own race and ride on to the checkered flag with ease. In the second spot was Monster Energy rider Jake Moss. Moss was riding extremely well but was unable to catch Reed.
In the third spot was Keene Motosports/North Racing Inc/Suzuki and well-known local rider Robbie Marshall. Marshall lost his goggles early in the race but still was able to catch up to Moss and challenge him for the second spot but was unable to get around him. With about one lap to go Marshall would go down in the sand in a left hand turn giving the spot up to Reed s teammate RockStar Makita Suzuki rider Michael Byrne.
So Reed was first, Moss second and Byrne would finish third on the podium in moto one. Fun fact -- all three riders are from Australia! That would be a first all Australian podium here.
Rounding out the top five for moto one would be Valli Motosports Yamaha rider Kyle Regal in fourth and Marshall would take the fifth spot after going down.
Southwick 450 Moto 2
Leading the 450 riders around turn one this time would be Honda Red Bull Racing rider Andrew Short. But Short was quickly passed by Reed and he started to pull away as he did in the first moto.
Next to get around Short would be Yamaha Racing rider Matthew Goerke followed soon by Moose Racing/Parts Unlimited Kawasaki and local legend rider John Dowd. It looked like Reed was going to have another easy win when about halfway through the moto he would do down hard after the finish line jump. Goerke would then take the lead with Dowd in second and Michael Byrne who also got around Short in third.
Goerke would go on to win the second moto and take the overall victory even though he had a bad first moto finishing sixth. It was his first ever AMA National win.
Dowd would take the second spot in moto two and get third overall for the day. The amazing thing about this is that John Dowd is 44 years old! Amazing!
Byrne would get on the podium second overall. Finishing out the top five for the second moto was Canidae/Motosport.com /Kawaski rider Tommy Hahn in fourth for fourth overall and Honda Red Bull Racing rider Ivan Tedesco was fifth for ninth overall.
Report after the race was that Reed was ok after his big crash and we hope to see him well and at next weekend s final race of the season.
Next weekend, Sept 5th, The Lucas Oil MotoCross Championship finishes with the American Festival from Steel City Raceway in Delmont, PA
