Southwick 250 Moto 1
It was raining the Friday before the race and starting the day on Saturday the rain continued with no end in site. Being the Southwick track is a sand track the conditions were surprisingly good. Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawaski rider and points leader coming into the race Christophe Pourcel would get a horrible start but work his way all the way to fifth when with only 2 laps to go his bike would break and he would DNF. Heartbreaking for sure.
Taking the early lead in the first moto was Geico Powersports Honda Rider Blake Wharton. He was closely followed by his teammate Justin Barcia. Who after a few laps was able to make the pass around Wharton. Team Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey would also get around Wharton and go after Barcia.
Dungey would catch and battle with Barcia for the remainder of the moto even passing him briefly, but Barcia was riding awesome this day and would not be denied his first ever moto win.
So the moto would finish: Barcia, Dungey and Wharton on the podium. Geico Powersports Honda rider Brett Metcalfe would finish fourth and Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Austin Stroupe would take the fifth spot.
Southwick 250 Moto 2
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Tyla Rattray would get the holeshot and take it all the way to victory in moto two.Metcalfe would be second and finish his moto in that spot.
Dungey and Pourcel would both go down in the first turn but Dungey was up and away first. Dungey would work his way all the way up to third before the hard-charging Barcia who also got a bad start would catch and pass him late in the race.
The moto would finish Rattray winning and getting second overall for the day. Metcalfe took second and third overall, and the rookie sensation Barcia would take the third spot and win his first ever overall win after turning pro 11 races ago.
Fourth would be Dungey going 4-4 for the day and Monster Milk/MDK rider would get the fifth in the moto but twelfth overall.
American Honda/Triangle Cycles rider Taylor Futrell would get fifth overall for the day after going 7-7.
Pourcel would finish eleventh in the moto and 18th overall. Coming into this race he had a 13 point lead over Dungey for the Championship. But after two bad motos Pourcel now trails Dungey by a full 17 points going in the final race of the season next weekend at Steel City.
It s a tough road for sure but as they say, It ain t over till its over But one thing is for sure, we will crown a 250 champion next weekend.
The 250 s go at it one final time at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, PA next weekend. Same day coverage of the 250 class can be seen on SPEED at midnight ET.
