The 250 class also had its share of excitement this weekend at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Race. Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, UT held the race where only 7 points were between the top 3 riders.
Geico Honda rider Eli Tomac would get the holeshot and take the early lead but right behind him were Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders Josh Hansen and Broc Tickle who were the number one and two in the points leaders coming into this race.
Hansen was trying to make his move everywhere he could but Tomac was riding awesome and not making any mistakes.
But just after lap two right after the finish line jump, going into a right hander Hansen would try an aggressive block pass making hard contact with Tomac. It would backfire and cost Hansen greatly as Tomac stayed on two wheels but Hansen would go down and wined up under his bike. By the time he got back and re-fired his bike he would be almost in last place and by race end would only be able to climb back to thirteenth. Coming into the race he was only 2 points out of first now he would leave 14 points out.
Tomac would ride flawlessly the rest of the race and win the event with a very comfortable lead.
But the battle behind him was going on strong between Tickle and Red Bull KTM s Ken Roczen.
On about lap seven Roczen would make his move on Tickle for the second spot. Tickle stayed right with him until the end but was never able to get back around him and having to settle for the third position on the podium.
Rounding out the top 5 closely behind them would be Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda s Cole Seely in fourth and DNA Shred Stix/Star Racings rider Kyle Cunningham would take the fifth spot.
Broc Tickle is the series points leader by just 2 over Tomac going in the last race of the west series in Sam Boyd Stadium next weekend in Las Vegas. Hansen is third in points down 14 and will need a lot of luck to have any shot at the title.
Their will be 3 championships decided there next weekend. 450, 250 east and 250 west. But of all the championships this one by far is the closest in points. Vegas this year is going to be one giant exciting event! Click here for the full photo gallery.
