250 Moto 1
The fireworks in the air on this 4th of July weekend were not the only ones to watch. There was plenty of race action to be seen from the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at the Redbud national in Buchanan, MI
It would be the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider #19 Jake Weimer grabbing the holeshot closely followed by Rockstar/ Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey. Weimer could not hold off the hard charging Dungey and lost the lead early in the race. He stuck with Dungey throughout the whole moto but was unable to get close enough to get the lead back.

Behind them was a great battle between Geico Powersports Honda riders Brett Metcalfe and Justin Barcia along with Muscle Milk KTM rider #123 Tommy Searle. On the last lap Barcia out jumped Metcalfe over the famous “LaRocco’s Leap†to take over the third and final spot on the podium.

Metcalfe would finish fourth and Searle would take fifth to round out the top 5.
250 Moto 2
It would be the Muscle Milk KTM bike of Martin Davalos powering to the lead in the first turn in 250 moto number two.
Dungey, Pourcel, Weimer and Searle were all in a tight battle trying to run down Davalos for the lead. Early in the race Dungey would crash in spectacular fashion going over the bars. He was up quickly and ok but that put him out of the battle.

Pourcel then quickly made his move on Davalos for the lead and pulled away. Searle then made the move around Davalos putting him in the second spot. Metcalfe and Weimer would also get around Davalos dropping him to the fifth spot where he would finish the race.

Pourcel would win the moto but his teammate Weimer (finishing fourth) would win the overall and his second consecutive race of the year. This just after his first ever 250 national win last week at Lakewood.
Searle would once again finish out the podium in third.
Dungey would finish the moto in the eighth spot but take the fifth overall position now putting him 8 points behind series leader Pourcel.

450 Moto 1
Going into turn one in the first 450 moto was RockStar/Makita Suzuki bike of Chad Reed. Reed tried to pull away from second place Honda/Red Bull rider Andrew Short but Andrew made the pass before the first lap and actually started to pull a lead between them.

Monster Energy/Kawasaki rider Ricky Dietrich was in third spot followed by Short’s teammate Ivan Tedesco in fourth. Canidae/MotoSport rider Tommy Hahn was having a great ride in the fifth spot.

Short road strong but slowly Reed reeled him back in late in the race and made the pass for the lead. Getting a bad start in about the 12 position was JGR/Toyota Yamaha rider Josh Grant. Grant who had been the fastest rider all day made a hard charge for the front of the pack, though. With only a few laps to go he was hot on the heels of Reed. Coming into the last turn Grant pinned it to the inside but came up short through the checkered flag.
Short would finish third in the moto followed by Tedesco for fourth and Dietrich for fifth rounding out the top 5.
450 Moto 2
The big Honda 450 of Tedesco would pull the holeshot in moto two followed by his teammate Short. Reed, Grant and Makita/Suzuki rider Michael Byrne would round out the top 5 on lap one.
Grant, this time getting a much better start, made quick work of Reed and set off after the leading Honda riders. Grant was setting a blistering pace and had no trouble taking over the lead. He rode strong and smooth and would go on to win the moto and his first ever 450 overall!

Reed in the meantime had gotten around Short and was in a heated battle with Tedesco. They were literally wheel-to-wheel going into the last turn and came together and bumped each other just before the finish line. What a finish! They stopped a little bit down the track and talked for a second or two, shook hands and congratulated each other.
Reed would finish in third place in the moto but would take second overall. Tedesco would finish on the podium with a third overall.
Short would finish the day fourth overall and JGR/Toyota/Yamaha rider Cody Cooper (Grant’s teammate) would take home a fifth overall.

Reed still leads the series championship by 21 points with 6 races left.
