Round 10 of the the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Budds Creek MX park started out with weather that was extremely hot and what seemed to be 100% humidity. Although the day started out sunny but later in the day the dark clouds started building and by the time the second motos started so did the rain.
Moto 1 - 450
Honda Red Bull Racing rider Davi Millsaps would get the holeshot and quickly begin to pull away from the pack. MotoConcepts Honda rider Mike Alessi would be in the second spot but Factory Yamaha rider Matt Goerke and Monster Energy/Kawaski rider Jake Moss would make their way around Alessi and try and catch Millsaps.
Team Rockstar/Makita Suzuki rider and points leader Chad Reed did not get a good start but was making a charge for the front. About halfway through Goerke would make a small mistake and go down giving the second spot to Moss. Shortly after that Moss would have bike problems and have to pull out of the race. Reed passed Goerke for second and now set his sights on Millsaps.
With three laps to go Reed would catch Millsaps and it looked like he would make the pass for the lead but Davi would not have any of it and was able to hold off Reed by just feet at the finish line.
Goerke would take the third spot Valli Motorsports/Yamaha/FMF rider Kyle Regal would take the fourth spot in the moto and rounding out the top five would be Honda Redbull racing rider Ivan Tedesco.
Moto 2 - 450
Moto 2 would see Tedesco jump out to the early lead but Reed got a much better start and quickly made his way up to Ivan and make the pass for the lead. Canidae/Motosports.com/Kawasaki rider Tommy Hahn was riding awesome and would also catch and pass Tedesco. Reed would go on to win moto two and take the overall for the day.
Reed would also close out the day with his first ever AMA Pro Motocross Championship two rounds early! This because Honda Redbull Racing rider Andrew Short, who was second in points, had a bad day going 7-10 for eighth overall and that would give Reed over a 100 point lead with 2 rounds to go.
Hahn would finish the moto second and take fifth overall for the day. Tedesco would hold on to third in the moto and finish the day on the podium third overall. Regal would take the fourth spot in the moto and finish fouth overall. Rounding out the top 5 in the moto was Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Michael Byrne. Millsaps would get sixth in the moto but would finish on the podium for the day second overall.
The 450 s will do battle again next Saturday, August 29th at MX-338 in Southwick, MA. Same day coverage of the event can be seen on SPEED at 9pm ET.
