Round 10 of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Budds Creek MX park started out with weather that was extremely hot and what seemed to be 100% humidity. Although the day started out sunny the dark clouds started building and by the time the second moto started the rain had begun.
250 Moto 1
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawaski rider Jake Weimer would take the early lead in moto one. His teammate and current points leader Christophe Pourcel would quickly move into the second spot and give chase. The rider coming into this race just 6 points behind Pourcel, Rockstar Makita Suzuki
s Ryan Dungey moved into the third spot and the battle was on.
Pourcel would eventually run down and pass Weimer and take the win in moto one. Weimer would hold onto second over Dungey who had to settle for the third spot. Rounding out the top five would be Geico Powersports Honda rider Justin Barcia in fourth and Yamaha/Star Racing/Division 7 rider Darryl Durham in fifth.
250 Moto 2
When the gate dropped for moto two the rain had turned into a steady downpour and would get worse as the race went on. Jake Weimer once again would take the early lead but Geico Powersports Honda rider Brett Metcalfe would make his move early and take the lead. Pourcel was in the third spot and his closet rival for the championship Ryan Dungey was in fourth.
The race turned into survival of the fittest of who could keep their bike up on 2 wheels! The downpour was creating huge puddles on the track and the mud was so deep that if a rider stopped he would be stuck right there.
With about one lap to go Weimer would somehow find his way around Metcalfe and that pass would give him the win of the second moto and the overall for the day going 2-1.
Metcalfe would take the second spot in the moto but finish sixth overall for the day. Pourcel would get third in the moto and finish second overall. Dungey would hold on for fourth in the moto but finish the day on the podium third overall. Finishing out the top five was Yamaha/Star Racing/Division 7 rider Matthew Lemoine.
Leaving Budds Creek Pourcel now leads Dungey by 13 points with 2 rounds left in the series to go.
