Jeb Corliss - lucky to be alive.
35-year-old wingsuit madman Jeb Corliss crashed mid-flight yesterday, suffering multiple fractures including a broken leg. Corliss crashed after leaping off Table Mountain in South Africa at 10am local time.
In the video you see Corliss impact the ground then tomahawk through the air and out of sight. Rescuers came to his aid and a helicopter airlifts him to the hospital. He underwent surgery to treat his injuries but was reported to be conscious and in good spirits.
Michelle Norris, spokeswoman for the private Christiaan Barnaard Hospital in Cape Town, said: "I saw him in the emergency room and asked whether I could release details of his condition.
"He smiled at me and said, 'Tell them I feel the best I ever have.'
He remains in intensive care.
Jeb was working with his colleague Joby Ogwyn when the near-tragedy happened this morning.
Joby said he heard a sound from above and realised his pal had smashed into the side of the mountain.
He said: "I'm not sure what happened. I heard a sound — it sounded like Jeb hit a ledge, it sounded like he hit it twice, pretty hard.
"It could have been a strange gust of wind; it could be that he got too close to the mountain."
Corliss, from California, has gained fame flying off of, over and through famous mountains and landmarks around the world including the Eiffel Tower and the Christ the Redeember Staue in Rio De Janiero. Most notably a highly published stunt in China for Red Bull.
Thoughts go out for a speedy recovery.
