Banzai Betty did not get her permit for the Pipeline contest this year, but will be holding a womens Pro Am at Kewalos August 16-17 which is presented by One Love Surf Shop and hosted by Girls Who Surf. Gina Wardrop is the proud owner of One Love and a former pro surfer so it is great to see the girls coming together to host their own events.
Hawaiian Girls dominated in the U.S. Open this past weekend. Wildcard Malia Manuel defeated top contendars to become the youngest competitor to win the competition at the mere age of fourteen. Koko Ho placed second. The weekend prior in Biarritz France, Hawaiian Joy Monahan became the 2008 ASP World Longboard Champion at the Roxy Pro.
Looks like the guys are scoring at Uluwatu for the Rip Curl Search. I have to admit, I am jealous of those contest photos right now. Indo is the trend right now, everyone I see has either been there, is going there or is going back. Everybodys into it.  I wonder if they got that boat off the reef in Padang; last I heard they couldn't move it so they were cutting it up in pieces, what a mess. You have to be careful surfing when there is debris in the water; once I got a scrape on my eye from a boat that got stuck on the reef at Ala Moana and had to wear a patch on my eye for a while which is painful and somewhat humiliating.
Bustin down the Door will premier in Hawaii on Aug 1st at Dole Cannery accompanied with an autograph signing by Mark Richards and Shaun Thompson at 7pm. I have heard great things about the film.
