O'neill Coldwater Classic New Zealand, Scotland and
Santa Cruz
We must have jinxed O'neill's new location to the Cold Water Classic, when we posted about Gisborne's Pines. Due to poor conditions and strong offshore winds, the ASP made an exec decision to move the O'neill Cold Water Classic to a new location. Surfers were more than stoked on the condition improvement - solid waves with no wind.
Originally, the CWC was held in New Zealand's Pines at Wainui Beach but after two and a half days of poor conditions ASP moved the event to Pipe at Midway Beach in Gisborne. O'neill notes that the drama didn't stop at a location change; "The day was not without its upsets, however, with 2010 O'Neill Cold Water Classic Series winner Shaun Cansdell (AUS) being eliminated, along with Gabriel Medina (BRA) Cory Lopez (USA) and Nathaniel Curran (USA). French surfers Marc Lacomare and Joan Duru completed a one-two for their country today placing first and second in their heat, respectively. Lacomare took the win over his countryman scoring 11.87 points in his heat."
