MTV decided to slow-play the big reveal, pun intended, that its new show about a professional skateboarder is really about nudism in San Clemente. We saw some teaser shots of the Sheckler shoulder tat, but none of the full-on nudity advertised in the trailer and on the MTV website, (as presented to you here in the gallery of yesterday's post).
As promised in the trailer, however, this episode focuses heavily on his parents' divorce and his girl troubles, with an interlude in a double decker RedBull party bus on the way to the Winter Formal at his high school. This must be the setup for the psychological background into the emergence of a nudist: Divorce + girl troubles + RedBull party bus = Perfect cocktail for underage nudism.
In heavy voice-over narration, Sheckler ends the episode with a rhetorical question: "If I can nail a 360 flip lipslide down the gnarliest rail, why can't I seem to get the right girl?"
That's a question hundreds of teenage girl readers of the The Life of Ryan Blog have been happy to answer, also in precursor to the big reveal: "OMG pls take ur shirt off more."
There's been a lot of media attention lately about MTV's plans to overhaul its online presence after realizing it had come about seven years late to the 21st century. This strategy appears to hinge largely on Sheckler's nude and tatooed shoulders, so as a bonus you can now watch Episode 1 while you're on the clock at work (or junior high, as the case may be) without even having to splurge for basic cable.
What happened to skateboarding? Damn...
