Kevin Pearce at 2008 European Open
Kevin Pearce was critically injured yesterday while attempting a Double Cork in the 22-foot superpipe in Park City. In his attempt he hit his head on the lip of the pipe and was knocked unconscious. According to reports, he was taken to nearby University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City and underwent surgery to relieve swelling on the brain. Pearce's parents were notified and flew from Vermont to Salt Lake to be with Kevin.
An Olympic hopeful, Pearce had been one of the favorites to make the team and possibly vie for the Gold. One of the few snowboarders who's actually beaten Shaun White in head-to-head competition.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin and his family. A Facebook page has been setup to send well wishes.
