Even Jim Beam surfed

The best teams in California are gearing up for the Jim Beam Surftag U.S. Series Championships in Huntington Beach, November 13th and 14th. Twenty-four teams, in a two day championship finale, will be fighting for a piece of the $10,000 purse. But only one team will be crowned as the Best Surf Club in California.

In the championship round, Powerwaves and bonus points will play a vital role in the competition. Happy Endings from L.A./Malibu, CA capitalized on grabbing extra points, which led to back to back wins in the first two rounds. Happy Endings hopes to add to their success and clean up the series with a championship victory.

With the competition close and $10,000 on the line, any team has the opportunity to pull out a victory. The surfing in the qualifying rounds has been out standing. "This format is a lot of fun and guys get the heckle each other, but the level of talent has been tremendous and we expect the finals to feature some great surfers and surfing." - Chris Conrad, Jim Beam Surftag Series Director.

Teams like Reef which won the Oceanside round - FCS Chargers, Purp's Posse, and Team Man Sandwich are some of the other favorites.

The Los Angeles based FCS Chargers have been on the podium every round and look to utilize team member Kyle Knox in the championships, who has the only score of a perfect 10 on a Powerwave thus far in the series. Benji Weatherley and his Man Sandwich team from Encinitas will see if they have the ingredients to improve on their 4th place finish in Oceanside. Sean Hayes's prediction in the early qualifying rounds stands true as his Ventura based Purp's Posse make it to the finals and have a chance to win it all. After crushing the competition by 40 points in the last qualifying round, Team Reef has full momentum as they charge into the Huntington Beach Championships.

In addition to the $10,000 prize purse, Jim Beam will salute the Surftag Champions with a mobile billboard featuring the winner's name and image. The billboard route will focus on the teams home town and break. Be sure to head down to Huntington to watch some incredible surfing. While you're at it, heckle Team 1,000 lb. surfers Justin De Land and Derrick Lee.

Totino\'s Field Notes

Totino's Field Notes

Totino's Field Notes - Road to the 2010 US Open of Snowboarding. It's been an interesting year for Totino's team riders Danny Davis and Mason Aguirre. After starting strong in the Fall and early season, with great contest results at the Totino's Open in Breckenridge, both riders suffered injuries. Danny is out for the year, but Mason recently came back and plans to throw down at next week's US Open of Snowboarding in Stratton, VT.
