Jet Skis standing by to assist surfers
With all this talk about big wave surfing and the tragic passing of the mavericks surfing Sion Milosky it's no surprise that the constant debate of jet ski use is back in the spotlight.
Mavericks is located by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and is highly regulating the impact on the delicate ecosystem. The National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration, or NOAA, sees that because jet skis do nothing positive for a healthy marine sanctuary they would prefer less use of them at Mavericks.
However in an article, surfers note that if it weren't for the jet skis, some big wave riders would have drowned!
"About two months ago, surfer Jacob Trette nearly died while surfing Maverick's but was rescued by a jet ski illegally operating in the area. The jet ski operator was fined $500." Get the full story about the Jet Ski debate here.
Should the personal watercrafts be banned even though they have been proven to save lives?
