When we got back up to the lodge they told us to go do an inspection run. Still visibility was horrible. At the bottom of the venue we were told an official call on the competition would be made at noon. It was now 11:15am. There was no way they could hold the comp, you couldn't even see half way up the venue.
Thinking the competition was going to be cancelled for today, we headed once again up the gondola. In the lodge they told us it was cancelled and not five minutes later, they told the women they were running today. Emotionally we were shot, competing, not competing, and then competing. It was more than one could handle.
I hiked up the “stairway to hell†and mentally prepared myself to compete. I decided to ski the line that was more fluid and fast. It paid off; I was in seventh place going into the finals.
Crystal Wright of Jackson Hole led the women after skiing a clean line in famous boxcar.
