Join Surfing Magazine, the Surfrider Foundation, Vitamin Water, and Earthpack to celebrate the ocean and clean up beaches on Sunday, June 20 for the 6th annual International Surfing Day. ISD has events across the United States and worldwide, including paddle outs, surf lessons, bbqs, outdoor films, beach cleanups, and more. Click here to find one near you or create your own party by surfing and cleaning up your local beach.

There are also challenges including "Most unique piece of trash," "Best trash sculpture," and "Most alternative material ridden on a wave," with sponsors Electric, Ocean Minded, Matrix, DVS, O'Neill, Reef, Sector 9, Vans, Volcom, Free as a Dog, Quiksilver, Rip Curl, Globe, and Spy will provide prizes.

Here is more info from the ISD website:

It s time for ISD to start ripping. Six years ago, the Surfrider Foundation and SURFING Magazine felt the surf world was missing something. A day to encourage all surfers to do a few, simple things: paddle out, catch a wave, spread ocean awareness and clean their beaches. And now we re ready for the big time. We've got the masses. We've got the pros. And we've got you. So as we approach the big day which lands on Father s Day this year grab dad and the rest of your friends and family and kick off the summer in the water and on the sand so you can get the most out of the longest day of the year.

In the past six years, ISD has managed to influence some major players, clean tons of trash off the beach and score some amazing waves. There have been meetings with Governor Arnold Shwarzenegger. Massive benefit concerts in Japan and Florida. Thousands of pounds of trash removed from our beaches. Thousands of new Surfrider members and close to 100 participating chapters worldwide. And, on top of all this, many memorable sessions in classic conditions: Mexico in 2006, Australia in 2007. All-time Indo in 2008. And flawless South Africa in 2009. Our fingers are crossed for 2010.

The sixth installment of International Surfing Day will no doubt be out in full force in a town near you. And with the surf world s largest brands stepping up athlete and company participation for 2010, we ll be keeping you up to date on where your favorite surfers will be spending ISD as well as where all the big events will be taking place around the world. So be sure to keep checking back and we ll see you in the lineup on June 20th for a Happy ISD. - Travis Ferr
