Chaz GuldemondA massive jump line awaited contestants Thursday for the slope style portion of the Mammoth Grand Prix. The course involved 4 jumps ranging from 50-80 feet with a double line of jibs in the middle of the run.
Ian ThorleyThere were a ton of hungry up and comers that showed up ready to charge. Two of those, Nick Julius and Brett Esser, qualified 2nd and 3rd respectively. Chaz Guldemond didn't waste any time proving he deserves super-pro status and stomped some big tricks including a front side 1080 into a Backside 1260 on the first double jump line.
For the ladies, the jumps seemed to be a little big and most of the girls chose to hit the smaller takeoff option. Izzy Lalive was not it that pack and she managed to stomp cab 540s and backside 540s off the large takeoffs. She qualified 3rd behind Lynn Neil who did some really smooth front side 540s on the last jump and came in 2nd.
They were no match for Jamie Anderson, however, who landed front side 360s, backside 180s, and front side 720s deep in the landings during her run and qualified 1st.
Finals for the slopestyle are scheduled to run this Sunday. For tomorrow, the next Olympic halfpipe qualifier begins.
With the riders having had these last 4 days to get accustomed to the Mammoth pipe, it should culminate into some ridiculous riding.
