News went out about a month ago that Greg Lutzka was leaving Globe and joining forces with K-Swiss, and now a first peek at how the tennis shoe company will be designing and marketing its way into skateboarding is online:
A page that briefly went up at http://www.kswiss.com/lutzka/ now appears to be a dead link. Maybe they're rethinking strategy after it got slammed in a bunch of online forums last night? Lutzka's kind of a lightning rod for a lot of people anyway, and some heavy marketing-speak in this video probably didn't help some core kids digest the news.
I actually have no doubt that K-Swiss will be able to come up with a credibe skate shoe and this was, perhaps, inevitable, now that Adidas, Nike SB, and Converse all have decent skate lines and teams and have each managed to earn themselves varying degrees of street cred. Still, these are interesting times, for sure: I'm curious to see what they come up with, but my instinct is still to support companies with deeper roots in skateboarding, even though I've now had perfectly good experiences with shoes made by some of the bigger mainstream sports shoe companies.
What do you think?
