Greg Long on his winning drop.
In a day of epic surfing at Waimea Bay, The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau names San Clemente's Greg Long as the 2009 Champion. Greg wins $55,000 for his huge 25 foot wave that scored him a perfect 100 and overall score of 323 - just ten points higher than second place finisher, Kelly Slater.
Greg gave a poignant acceptance speech thanking the Aikau family, the Hawaiian Water Patrol, and his fellow competitors. Admitting in characteristic nature, "It's an honor to be here and I'm humbled just to be invited."
