Well, the South Shore came back to life a little bit with some 3-foot surf on Sunday which started dropping again on Monday and the Northshore got a little bump with a lot of wind, but there is still something to stand up on out here. Sean Moody has been back in the water after an ankle injury earlier this summer. He told me he was in good company the other day and lasted five hours in the three foot surf at Bowls. It's funny how those fun warm days in town can be so delightful if you just have the right person to wait it out with for the sets. You start reminiscing about your earliest surfing memories and then suddenly you realize you have fried yourself for five hours and have blistered lips for two weeks. Anyone who was there remembers Moody Man's backside attack in the final at Haleiwa last year. People were saying it was some of the best backside surfing ever witnessed in the huge maxing surf.

Carrisa Moore cleaned up at the Sea Hawaii Girls Who Surf Pro Am this past weekend. She won both shortboard and longboard divsions plus the Flyhi Trick award. Aleeza Quizon was a close second in the shortboard division and there were a list of amateur champions in bodyboarding, standup paddling and shortboard as well. This women-only event was hosted by Girls Who Surf and presented by One Love surf shop, which is owned by Gina Wardrope a former pro surfer and skater. Banzai Betty put the event on in place of her historic women's Pipe contest that she was not able to obtain the permit for this past season. Props to Betty for putting on a great event for the women.

The Dukefest is currently well underway in Waikiki. I saw photographer Jim Russi with wife and family who were heading over to check out the Macys Junior competition. It certainly is the type of surf contest you can bring the family to and is probably the biggest surfing event all summer. There's something for everyone including the Roxy Jam, Beach Boy Stand up division, Legends and everything else you can think of in between. Last year the tandem surfing competition seemed to gain more attention than anything else.

Just a couple months away from winter now and September and October have been known to produce some of the biggest swells of the whole summer to get us warmed up. Looks like a little more swell coming for the weekend.
