BMX Stop 1 - Newnan, GA

Out of a field of 19 BMX riders, Bryan Lacombe won the BMX park competition and Anthony Garcia won the BMX vert contest Sunday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour’s stop in Newnan, Ga.

Eighteen-year-old Lacombe from Fort Myers, Fla. earned the BMX park victory at Factory Skatepark after executing a tailwhip transfer and an alley-oop tailwhip on the quarterpipe during his winning run. Jovanny Benitez was second and Devon Smillie finished in third place.

“It was exhilarating,” Lacombe said. “I’m so tired but so stoked to go to the finals in SLC. This is a big relief coming off a bad year for me.”

In the BMX vert contest, 17-year-old Garcia used an almost-flawless run that included no handers, bar spins and double seatgrabs to secure the win. Benitez took second place in the vert competition as well, while Cade Wall rounded out the top three.

“Today’s competition was another great success,” Factory owner, Dean O’Reilly said. “It’s great to know that the Gatorade Free Flow Tour is giving these four kids a chance to take their riding to the next level.”

With the win, both Lacombe and Garcia earn an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, September 17-20, 2009.

In Saturday’s action at Factory, Phil Hansen and Clay Kreiner took the skate park and vert titles, respectively.

Shades of Skate

Shades of Skate

Early this summer BNQT filmer Grant Schubert hitched a ride with the Anon Optics skate team as they loaded into a rental RV and perused through the Pacific Northwest. The crew: Nuge, Clint Peterson, Brian "Slash" Hansen, Pat Melcher, Tom "The Bomb" Bonilla and Garreth Stehr show multiple shades of skate as they strum guitars by campfire at night and slay smooth concrete trannies by day.
