Ryan Thompson Wins at Southside Skatepark in Houston, TX

Out of a field of 32 skaters, Ryan Thompson won the skate park competition Sunday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour’s stop in Houston, Texas.

Thirteen-year-old Thompson from Katy, Texas earned the skate park victory at Southside Skatepark after executing a kickflip front boardslide and a smith to front feeble during the final jam session. Zack Hemphill was second and Jordan Halley finished in third place.

Thompson is a three-time finalist on the Gatorade Free Flow Tour, also winning the Denver, Colo. event in 2007 and 2008.

“I’m happy I get to go back to Salt Lake City again this year for the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals,” Thompson said. “It was so much fun last year. The course was sick.”


“The contest was small but mighty,” Southside owner, Eric Visentin said. “For the first year we’re hosting the Gatorade Free Flow Tour, the turnout was great and all the rippers were here. Lots of kids over 18 were jealous they couldn’t enter. Next year should be even bigger and better.”

With the win, Thompson earns an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, September 17-20, 2009.

Caedyn Curto Wins at Skatelab in Simi Valley, CA

Out of a field of 41 skaters, Caedyn Curto won the skate park competition Sunday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour’s stop in Simi Valley, Calif.

Fourteen-year-old Curto from Redondo Beach, Calif. earned the skate park victory at Skatelab after skating consistently throughout the day, landing a boardslide to feelbe during the final jam session. Jake Hill was second and Chase Webb, who won last weekend’s Gatorade Free Flow Tour stop in Encinitas, Calif., finished in third place.

“I have competed in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour contests for the past three years at the different California stops,” Curto said. “It feels great to win one and get to go to the Finals!”

“Skatelab was stoked to host the 2009 Gatorade Free Flow contest,” Skatelab owner Todd Huber said. “The level of talent was amazing throughout the day. We look forward to being a host again in 2010!”

With the win, Curto earns an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, September 17-20, 2009.

Corey Millett Wins at 3rd Lairr in Burnsville, Minn.

Out of a field of 28 skaters, Corey Millett won the skate park competition Saturday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour’s stop in Burnsville, Minn.

Fourteen-year-old Millett from St. Paul, Minn. earned the skate park victory at 3rd Lair after executing consistent, difficult and technical tricks throughout the day, including a backside varial heelflip and a nollie lipslide transfer during the final jam session. Kevin Heger was second and Jack Olson, a finalist on the 2008 Gatorade Free Flow Tour, finished in third place.

“I love skateboarding,” Millett said. “The Gatorade Free Flow Tour is awesome.”

“Third year is a charm,” 3rd Lair owner, Mark Muller said. “It was an intimate competition, new location, and a good time for all today. Congrats to Corey; I think it’ll be his first time leaving Minnesota!”

With the win, Millett earns an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, September 17-20, 2009.

Brendon Villanueva Wins at Fontana North Skatepark in Fontana, CA

Out of a field of 49 skaters, Brendon Villanueva won the skate park competition Saturday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour’s stop in Fontana, Calif.

After finishing in second place at last week’s Gatorade Free Flow Tour contest in Encinitas, Calif., 14-year-old Villanueva from Poway, Calif. earned the skate park victory at Fontana North Skatepark Saturday after skating consistently throughout the day and executing a hard flip down the eight set during the final jam session. Anthony Estrada was second and Patrick Placentia finished in third place.

“I am so psyched to go to the Finals!” Villanueva said. “I had a great time today.”

“Gatorade really proved to skaters today that they care about the future of skateboarding,” General Manager of Fontana North Skatepark, Chris Thomas said. “The organization of the contest and the opportunity that the Gatorade Free Flow Tour gave the local talent really showed us what its focus for the future is. We really respect that.”

With the win, Villanueva earns an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, September 17-20, 2009.
