After Kelly Slater’s third win in four tries to start the 2008 ASP World tour, the 8x world champ has staked himself to a 938 point lead over Joel Parkinson, which is especially large in light of how he is surfing. Anything can happen
CJ Hobgood has been resurgent, posting a third and a second on the South Pacific leg of the tour to put himself right back into contention in the sixth spot. Â
Dane Reynolds fell from tenth to sixteenth after his no-show due to sickness, but that still gives him rookie of the year honors over Jordy Smith who is tied for nineteenth.Â
On the nationality front, Aussies are doing quite well for themselves, with five of their ilk inhabiting the top ten. Brazil is represented by the diminutive and determined Brazilian, Andriano de Souza, while CJ Hobgood, Slater, Bobby Martinez hold it down for America. Andy Irons tumbled to eighth in the ladder after his 17th place finish in Fiji, making him the sole representative in the top ten for Hawaii... the freak state.Â
