Expect big waves...

Ladies and gentlemen, The Quiksilver In Memory Of Eddie Aikau surf contest, aka "The Eddie", looks to be upon us. The Eddie is the world's longest running and most prestigious big-wave invitational event. This surf contest is almost as rare as it is famous. Held at Waimea Bay in Hawaii, The Eddie only runs when the waves exceed 20 feet. Due to this strict rule, The Eddie has only ran seven times in the last 24 years.

Expect big waves and big wipeouts for The Eddieand insane wipeouts for The Eddie

We will most likely see The Eddie run due to a huge swell which will soon peak in Hawaii. The waves are building throughout the day and tomorrow we should see the bulk of things. According to the forecasts, this swell should produce 20-40 foot waves in most northwest facing areas with larger sets reaching 50-60 feet on the face.

Thanks in part to Typhoon Nida, many are claiming this swell as "the biggest Hawaii swell ever," which is saying um, a lot. Surfline is calling this the "40-year swell." Jamie O'Brien, a contestant in The Eddie, is tweetin' up a storm: "the swell is gonna cont building 2day. peak is sometime this afternoon. but will stay big 4 next 2 days. me thinks Eddie 2morrow mayb".

Keep your eyes peeled to quiksilver.com/eddie tomorrow, because The Eddie contest organizers have said the following "80% chance of running Tuesday, December 8." You won't want to miss when the Bay calls the day for The Eddie to run.
