Let's just say the Gatorade Free Flow Tour drew in
the best am snowboarders and freeskiers on both ends
of the coast to send to the finals at Snow Basin
Gatorade's Free Flow Tour has been hitting mountain resorts across the country, hosting slopestyle events at Mt. Bachelor and Okemo and a superpipe event at Killington. After days of battling it out for nine total spots in the finals, six snowboarders and three freeskiers have earned a ticket to Snowbasin February 9-10. The lucky finalists will head to Utah where the finals will be held in conjunction with the Winter Dew Tour Toyota Championships.
Kent Callister, Devyn Schanke and Max Heard claimed victories at Bachelor while snowboarders Lauren Tamposi, Jack Dawe, Maggie Leon, and Owen Dayton and freeskiers Logan Dobson and Tyler Duncan.
Mt. Bachelor was blessed with some recent record-setting snow which set the stage for local shredder Callister to steal the show with his boardslide to fakie, cab 7 indy, switch backside 9 and boardslide 270 out on the cannon rail.
Oregon was most definitely in the house as the rest of the top five came to represent their home state. Even the winner for the women, Schnake hails from Bend and secured her win with a boosty nose grab and backside 180 melon. British Columbia's Heard claimed first in the freeski competition with his 270 out up top, a right seven and a left 900 tail on the jumps.
All the way on the East Coast, competitors gave it their all for the chance to make it on the pro circuits. Snowboarders Tamposi and Dawe earned bragging rights at Okemo. Duncan relied on his consistency and smooth style to top the podium at Okemo for the freeski competiton.
Eager to get to Utah, Tamposi was grateful for the opportunity, saying, "Big thanks to Gatorade for putting on this awesome contest!" Expressing similar sentiments, Dawe said, "Today was a super fun day. I'm so psyched Gatorade is sending me to compete with the Dew Tour at Snowbasin!"
It was Leon who earned her trip to the finals after pulling off a stylish frontside indy 360 in the pipe at Killington. Representing for the mountain, Leon feels comfortable advancing to more of the professional level pipes. "Since this is my home mountain, I felt pretty good about riding in a 22-foot pipe. I'm super psyched Gatorade puts on this contest and is sending me to Utah!" Freeskiers flocked to the Killington pipe, where Canadian competitor Dobson cleaned up with a first place run. Earning a close second place was Nick Rosenburger, while Ari Schneider secured a third place finish.
With their wins, all nine contestants earn an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, taking place in conjunction with the Winter Dew Tour's Toyota Championship, February 9-12, 2012 at Snowbasin Resort in Utah.
