Last year the World Wakeboard Association came up with a new series filled with a huge cash purse, a ton of different divisions, and events all around the world. The one event that kicked off the WWA Wake Park Series was held at the CamSur Watersports Complex in the Phillippines last May. The event sparked a lot of interest because of the cheap hotel rooms offered to riders, free wakeboarding/wakeskating at the cable park for a week leading up to the event, and the huge cash payouts all the way down to 10th place.
Next summer, the WWA Wake Park World Championships is going to be held in CamSur on July 2nd-6th. As released from the WWA:
"This event is open to all riders with 17 divisions for wakeboard and wakeskate and over $50,000 total in cash and prizes for the Pro Men and Women Wakeboard, Pro Wakeskate, Obstacles Only and Jr. Men's divisions. The competition will also include The CamSur Rider’s Cup, the first stop of the 2008 WWA Wakeboard World Series where the world's top pro riders will be onsite battling it out for $20,000 in prize money on the newly built CWC boat lake. In addition to all the action on the cable and behind the boat, riders can also session the new winch park designed by rail builder Pat Panakos from the world famous Projects Camp in Florida. This contest will offer an additional $4,500 in total prize money and will be held in a Jam-style format where competitors can take their best hits on their wakeboard or wakeskates.
This is projected to be one of the biggest international contests to date where the best riders from all over the world will compete for world titles and cash prizes. With boat, cable, winch riding and some of the best rails in the world, there's something for every rider to enjoy at this event and if this is your first trip to the Philippines, Camarines Sur has much more to offer than just wake sports.
The Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC), as featured in the October issue of WakeBoarding Magazine is a state of the art action sports and recreational facility for visitors from around the world and also includes a skate park, bike/BMX track, 2 Flowrider wave machines, swimming pool, basketball court and game room all onsite. It also has the feel of a resort with a variety of accommodations to choose from in addition to offering daily massages, lakeside/beach cabana rentals, free Wi-Fi, and a restaurant and bars all onsite."
Sounds like the perfect vacation to me. More information to follow...
